Canyoning Tour in Tamandua
Explore the Untouched Jungle of the Osa Peninsula
What to Expect
If you're seeking a true off-the-grid jungle adventure, the Canyoning Tour to Tamandua Biological Station is one of the most immersive and adrenaline-filled experiences in Drake Bay. This is not your average hike — it's a journey through untouched rainforest, along wildlife trails, and into river canyons that few travelers ever see. Expect to push beyond the ordinary and step into a world where nature sets the pace. This isn’t a polished tourist trail — it’s a rugged, hands-on journey into the raw heart of the jungle. You’ll feel the terrain shift underfoot, hear the distant calls of wildlife echo through the canopy, and move through landscapes few have ever touched. It’s equal parts physical challenge and sensory immersion, offering the kind of wild freedom you can only find off the map.
Tour Description
Your day begins at 7:00 AM, when your guide — a local specialist in jungle survival — leads you deep into the Tamandua Biological Reserve, one of the most remote corners of the Osa Peninsula. Using machetes when necessary to clear overgrown paths, you'll hike through primary rainforest along wild animal tracks used by tapirs, peccaries, and other jungle inhabitants.
Eventually, you'll reach a hidden canyon and waterfall, where the real thrill begins — canyoning through freshwater pools and rocky riverbeds, surrounded by nothing but pure nature. This area is so remote that tourists rarely visit, making it a truly authentic jungle expedition.
After 6 hours of hiking and canyoning, you'll enjoy a well-earned typical Costa Rican lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Drake Bay.
